Today the Supreme Court announced their decision in the controversial McDonald vs. Chicago gun control case.  Strike another one up for justice, the Second Amendment and common sense. 

Mayor Daly and his anti-gun cronies enacted a handgun ban in Chicago, claiming that this would stem the violence that is so bad many politicians want the National Guard called in.  Otis McDonald, the plaintiff, claimed that his Second Amendment rights were being violated by the law.

In a 5-4 decision, the land's highest court claimed that McDonald was right and that cities and states do not have the right to ban firearms as they see fit.  The decision was tempered with the caveat that localities can still make laws restricting some aspects of gun ownerships in order to promote public safety.

In this great editoral from the Washinton Times the author discusses Chicago's mayor, Richard Daley, claims that even more strict gun laws are needed to stop the bodies from dropping. 

While he continues ahead with his unconstitutional push to ban firearms in the city other state law makers are requesting that the National Guard be sent in to keep order.

Ever since Chicago instituted the hand gun ban in the 1980's their homicide and crime rates have grown far quicker than other major cities.  In contrast when the Supreme Court struck down the Washington D.C. handgun ban the murder rate dropped 25% the next year.

Despite the writing on the wall Daley and other anti-gun supporters continue to claim that keeping guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens will reduce crime.  As we all hold our breathe waiting for the Supreme Court to declare their stance on the McDonald Chicago gun case let's all hope they have more sense than the Mayor.

Advocates of a strict gun control policy claim that by enacting stricter gun laws criminals will be dissuaded from using guns during their crimes.  In fact nothing could be further from the truth!  Criminals know that people aren't armed and by simply breaking the gun policy laws they can get away with anything they want.

A tragic example of this the recent attack at Fort Hood.  The disgruntled major who attacked his fellow soldiers knew that the fort was under a strict gun control policy and was in a "federal gun-free zone" where penalties for carrying a concealed weapon are much stricter than normal.  Obviously he did not care.  He was on a mission to kill as many people as he could and didn't care about his own life let alone some gun regulation.

All he knew was that his victims would be unarmed!  The gun control reasons that are shoved down our throats by the media and politician looking to gain votes by cranking out the right sound bites are ridiculous. 

Not only are these people walking all over the Constitution but they are keeping us from being able to defend ourselves. 

This madness has to end.  Start by finding out if any politician (mayor, state senators, senators, congressmen, president) that have a say over what happens to you voted for gun control measures that are jeopardizing your freedom and safety.  Then don't vote for them next time they come up for reelection!

Be informed and take away from these people what they cherish the most; their power!

This year Americans have already purchased more than 12 billion rounds of ammunition!  That is a huge jump from the normal 7 to 10 billion rounds we buy each year.

So many people are buying ammo that manufacturers can't keep up with demand.  Following the supply and demand principles of economics prices have also shot up.

While some of this can be blamed on fighting two wars and huge government ammo purchases it is clear that the average American gun owner is worried about government control on guns and ammo.  With a democratic controlled Congress and White House many feel it is only a matter of time until illegal and unreasonable restrictions are placed on their gun and ammo purchases.

Many people are stockpiling ammo and even buying ammo for guns they don't own yet!

It remains to be seen if the government is going to drastically alter its gun control policy but many people are taking any chances.  This could all be paranoia but isn't it better to be safe than sorry?

So far in 2009 South Carolina has seen a giant spike in the amount of concealed permit requests filed.  The number is almost double that of 2008 and is by far the highest the state has ever seen.

Many people attribute this spike to Obama and the Democrats winning in the November elections.  Fearing a democratically controlled federal government might restrict gun ownership many South Carolinans are locking in their right to carry a concealed weapon.

Others note that rising crime rates have pushed many citizens, across all gender, social and ethnic lines, to arm themselves.  There has been a marked increase in handgun purchases while shotgun and rifle sales have declined.  There is also less sport hunting going on.

The Supreme Court of the United States agreed to hear a case challenging Chicago's draconian gun laws on early this month.

Chicago has long had some of the nation's strictest gun laws.  Chicago mandates that all firearms be registered but does not allow handguns to be registered.  This makes hand guns illegal in the city unless they were grandfathered in (if you had a permit before 1982).

On the heels of a victory for gun owner's rights with Distrcit of Columbia vs. Heller, where the Supreme Court held that D.C.'s ban on hand guns was illegal, the NRA filled a case that ran in conjunction with similar Chicago cases to challenge their laws.

Mayor Daley and others that would stifle Chicago gun owner rights claim that the ban and others like it are necessary to control the crime rate in the city.  Yet since this law has been in place the crime rate in Chicago has spiraled out of control; far exceeding the rest of the country.

The criminals don't care about gun laws and they know that law abiding citizens aren't armed so it's open season!  There has never been any evidence that a strict gun control policy lowers crime.

Hopefully the Supreme Court let's Mayor Daley and Chicago know that you can't rob people of their rights in an attempt to appease the media and make your self look tough on crime.
